Meet Peyton, class of 2024
Peyton said ever since they had vacationed to the Hilton Head and Charleston area as kids she knew she wanted her senior portraits taken in Charleston. This year they were actually staying down in Hilton Head but still made the drive to Charleston to spend the morning with me doing her senior portraits, and then spending the afternoon shopping on King Street. I don't know about you but that sounds like a pretty luxurious and pampering day trip!
Peyton's first outfit was absolutely perfect for my favorite South of Broad spot. Here the neutrals and texture of the architecture make her silk slip dress fit right into the landscape and upscale vibe of her look. The colors are easy on the eyes and look like she's modeling for their catalogue.
Style tips: Always send your outfit choices ahead of time, it helps for a quicker flow to the session since we photographers are quite the visual thinkers.
Always steam and hang your delicate materials prior to the session. Even travel can cause creases but we want it to be as pressed as possible when we start.
This one block of Church Street has enough variety for an entire family or senior portrait session as you can tell. The late morning light here still works beautifully as the homes provide great shade and the hot spots give contrast.
I will admit, when I saw this second outfit on the hanger I really couldn't envision how it really worked with the downtown environment. But once Peyton put it on I was instantly a fan and absolutely LOVED her in this color with the contrasting greens of these little nooks. Not only was the body suit and wide leg flattering on her, she totally felt confident and herself. And to me that is what makes all the difference in a portrait session!
Style tip: Wear what makes you confident, even if it's bold.
We started out with the silk slip dress being the favorite, but once we started with the pink pants I just loved everything I saw in that lens. The style, the statement, the beauty and confidence. Overall we had a successful session with so much variety. I love that seniors come to Charleston to have their sessions to be different than everyone else. I love being able to show them how to crush their sessions!
