Sunset on Kiawah Island with the Stallings Family...
Sunset sessions always strike up a little anxiety for me, especially when they are on Wild Dunes or Kiawah. But not because I'm nervous about photographing or meeting new families, mostly because the Charleston weather can change in a heartbeat and with these locations being so far away that it can change AS you are driving. And that is what we had here on Kiawah for this session. But once I commit I was in. I called Jennifer and told her we were going with the flow and if we got rained on we would figure it out.
It's part of my job to try to be the best weather report reader I can be, and with the cross winds and where Charleston is situated our weather pattern changes very quickly. And to further prove how much this means to me, I even took a Harvard weather course over the quarantine! However, I'm not sure if it helped me that much- that's how hard it is here to predict the weather here!
If you've read my blog about beach sessions you know that I love to start all the sessions with the more serious and posed images first.
This is for three reasons:
1. Most young kids give me their undivided attention for about 15 minutes.
2. These are the images that people frame on their walls, and the images their grandparents hang on the walls.
3. Might as well get the serious stuff done and out of the way before we let loose and get wet!
What I enjoyed most about photographing the Stallings family is that they were so flexible and so relaxed. They were so comfortable in front of the camera and really loved to do their own thing. I don't think this was their first go at family pictures, they're totally pros at it!
But you know what my favorite part of a beach session is? Getting in!
Nothing else makes for a memorable experience than allowing kids to get entirely soaked during their session. I mean seriously, I promise you- they won't forget it!
Thanks to the Stallings Family for being so fun!
