Alison + Jake ... Expecting!
I first came in contact with Alison back in December when she and Jake first found out that they were expecting. We didn't know what (yet) but they were over the moon delighted and had the idea of sharing their announcement during the Holiday Season with family and friends. I was right on board with this idea as I knew they wanted to be at the beach and to include their two dogs. We chose a date for a sunset session out on Kiawah Island at Beachwalker Park and were lucky enough to have the whole place to ourselves. Alison had made signs for their pups and we spent the gorgeous sunset walking around the boardwalk and beach just capturing them both wrapped up in each other's arms.
Fast forward a few months and Alison contacted me that she was interested in a maternity session (I squealed) and we planned to meet again this spring. I was so anxious to see them again, I love watching families grow but to be able to capture their announcement and now their maternity session was a like a quick slide into first base for me. I love that they were so happy with their first images that they wanted to hire me again. This to me is the ultimate compliment.
Side bar: If you didn't know already, maternity sessions are some of my absolute FAVORITE sessions. I figured my massive client closet might have given that away already, but honestly if you didn't know, maternity sessions are my JAM. I absolutely love posing moms of all shapes and sizes, I love assisting in choosing their wardrobe, I love seeing their husbands eyes light up when they try on the dresses and I LOVE accentuating their lovely bump and that pregnancy glow.
I was so nervous when Alison told me she DIDN'T want to wear one of my gowns, not offended... nervous. I knew she had great style so I tried not to doubt and I'm so glad I didn't. She bought herself a Fillyboo Maternity gown "Seeker Not Love Keeper" at a steal and I was head over heels. I have always wanted to own one of these gowns but with their price tag I was afraid to add to my closet and never use. All in all, it was perfect. The fit was amazing, the details of embroidery- EVERYTHING about this gown was so her and so gorgeous.
We were worried about the weather (per usual in Charleston) but we found a break in rain to shoot at Hampton Park. Since the flowers are long gone it can be hard to find inspiration there but I've always thought outside of the box. So we jumped into a flowerbed of palms and just rocked it. It was overcast so everything was saturated, dark, and moody. Their session went so well and so fluid, being that they had worked with before they were comfortable and laid back. We captured so so many great images and editing for them was a breeze because the lighting conditions actually made the colors pop so well.
And now we play the waiting game until baby's due date in June. Alison and Jake have also hired me for their in-home lifestyle newborn session and I absolutely cannot wait to meet their baby boy when he arrives!
